What is Discipleship?

Nancy McKinnis may have said it best in the devotional she wrote for Lent 2008.  “I know that I must spend time with Him in the Word so that the Holy spirit can show me how to have His treasure in my heart.”  “…spend time with Him in the Word…”  There isn’t a better way to describe discipleship.

It is a covenant with God for personal study and conviction, a commitment to follow Christ as a way of life to know Christ in a deeper and more intimate way.  The process of getting to know Him is lifelong (cf Philippians 3:10), and instruction in the Scriptures is an essential element in this process.  The lifestyle of a modern day disciple is one that lives faith to the fullest and becomes a total response to Jesus Christ as both Savior and Lord of our lives.

Discipleship is not for the elite in Christianity, but for all Christians.  New Covenant has many avenues for discipleship; Covenant Communities on Sunday mornings, Small Groups, Living Room classes, Bible studies that meet weekly or monthly, and other ways.  Explore them in the pages listed on the left.

But even there, if you seek god, your God, you’ll be able to find Him if you’re serious, looking for Him with your whole heart and soul.”  - Deuteronomy 4:29

I encourage you to surrender your life, spend time with God in His word and in conversation, and let Him change you from glory to glory. -2 Corinthians 3:18
