Stewardship

Everything we have comes from God.  Our money, our stuff, our talents are all gifts that we have been entrusted with.  Our money is just a tool we use to enable our ministries here at New Covenant, support our families and to enjoy the world God has given us.  You may have a lot of money in your accounts or you may have very little.

The real issue is, are we glorifying God with our stuff and wealth and does the first fruits of our checkbook reveal that?

How much do I need to give?

The Bible does not say how much you should give in dollars or shekels but rather seeks to deal with the heart behind your giving.  2nd Corinthians 8-9 says that our giving should be cheerful, regular, sacrificial and generous.

Through prayer we must seek to have a clear conscience in regards to our giving.  Jesus said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Mt. 6:21).

Who should give?

Christians should give faithfully to their local church.  If you are not a Christian and are presently not on a walk with Jesus,  don't give.  Seek to deal with a much larger issue: your sins and the fact that Jesus can rescue you from them.

At New Covenant, we aren't concerned about the amount that people give but rather the number of people who are giving. God builds His kingdom through the church, and He asks all believers to share in this joyous responsibility. The mission is bigger than just a few of us and it takes everyone's effort and faithfulness; no matter if you are a college student who can only give ten bucks a month or a millionaire who can give thousands.
